East Indian Rosewood is a very beautiful timber, but when you
see a lot of it, it can become a bit boring after a while. I
could not resist this batch of beautiful Figured Indian Rosewood
when I saw it and it makes such great instruments. The figure
is hard to describe but it is kind of mottled, and for those
looking for something that little bit different, but still in
the traditional line, this could be it. This guitar pictured
was sold in 2004. It is one of the Arched Double back models.
I have enough of this beautiful figured timber to make a few
more instruments. The top of this guitar is again an excellent
example of the fine grained Chocolate Cedar that I have been
using for a couple of years now. Dark CHocolate Cedar is very
stunning and is also very popular as it becomes more common.
The neck is Australian Red Cedar, a great timber that is excellent
for the necks of classical guitars, it is strong and light and
stable. Australian Red Cedar is darker than the Spanish Cedar
and this makes it more attractive, especially when the timber
used on the back and sides is dark.
The guitar pictured had a standard 650mm scale and with the proper adjustement to the intonation it plays beautifully in tune, which sadly is not the case with many classical guitars today, especially the cheaper ones from factories. The nut is again standard at 52mm width. The finish is lacquer on the back and sides and the top is French Polished with blonde shellac.
