There are of course many other timbers available that are suitable as tone woods. I get many requests to make instruments from various timbers that people have and are keen to use. Some of these I will work with and others I will not. This is mostly based on acoustic properties of the various pieces of timber, and sometimes the timber is just not of a suitable quality.
